Wait! Isn’t it suppose to be the Dog and Pony Show?

Our ‘democratic’ system is not even a shell of it’s former self. The conventions are nothing more than a circus meant to entertain the Hollywood coma induced masses.  The grand spectacle always starts with some big opening and ends with red, white, and blue conffeti and balloon. This is in itself is not the worse of it. A celebration is in no-way a terrible thing. The problems comes with the mystery of a non-mysterious event. You got selected now pat yourself on the back and move on.

In an attempt to create suspense and interest, in an other wise glorified tooting of ones horn, Obama must keep secret his choice for Vice President. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” says Obama trying to increase the suspense and interest of the Democrat convention. To be honest this is one person who does not really care to know. It is obvious what the Democrats stand for regardless and wont sway my opinion one way or another. However! An attempt to play on the very popular drama entertainment industry candidates (not just Obama) feel the need to play games. Running our nation is not a game, it is not a late night drama, it is a serious job meant to be taken seriously.

This blog will never attack people for their beliefs, it is well understood that no two Americans are exactly a like. We must respect our differences and live in harmony. To take the most important job in America, and in the world today, so lightly proves that our government really thinks that we are sheep for them to lead. It is shameful and unacceptable. The Government is there to work for us not take advantage of us; someday in the near future I hope we remind them of this.

The Libertarian Party proudly stands for smaller government, lower taxes and more freedom.

  1. I don’t think Obama is waiting to announce the pick so he can play games, he is doing it because if he waits until Saturday, after the Olympics are over, he will get more media coverage. Media coverage is extremely important in politics today and a candidate needs to do what they can to get it.

  2. Media coverage is important I agree, and it is part of the process I was arguing against. He is getting plenty of it now that he is saying nothing. He will get plenty more whenever he does say it. This is holding his choice back and teasing the media and the audience about it is a game. Yes a game to get more media coverage and interest, which as you said can help him get elected. The point is such games should not be needed to be elected, why does the show count so much? Shouldn’t the issues be the center of attention not the celebration of winning the right to try to win or the drama created from picking the VP candidate?

edit: Note this is not an attack on Obama as he is just doing what other have been doing for a while. He is more of a victim of the game than the problem.

  3. I agree with you completely that it should be about the issues and not about who gets the most media coverage. I think that our election system needs to be completely overhauled (the media needs to be overhauled too). Money should be taken out of the equation completely. The republicans and democrats have made it impossible for anyone else to receive any coverage because no one can compete with them financially. I typically vote democrat because I vote for the lesser of the two evils (I would consider myself a socialist libertarian which doesn’t really leave me with a lot of choices). I really do like Obama though, I think he is a genuinely good politician (oxymoron?) who wants to fix the system. I can only hope he follows through with what he wants to do.
